On June 10, Wang Xiaohui, Secretary of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and Chairman of the Standing Committee of Sichuan Provincial People's Congress, met with a delegation led by Armando Rodríguez Batista, the Minister of Science, Technology and Environment of Cuba, in Chengdu.

During the meeting, Wang Xiaohui, on behalf of the provincial Party committee and the provincial government, welcomed Armando Rodríguez Batista for his visit to Sichuan to attend the second Belt and Road Conference on Science and Technology Exchange. He also provided a brief overview of Sichuan's economic and social development. Noting that China and Cuba are good friends, good comrades and good brothers, he said that under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, the building of a China-Cuba community with a shared future has continuously yielded new outcomes. In recent years, Sichuan and Cuba have witnessed positive progress in their exchanges and cooperation, particularly in the realm of scientific and technological innovation, where mutual collaboration has borne significant results. In October 2023, President Xi Jinping sent a reply letter to Pedro Antonio Valdes Sosa, a famous Cuban scientist and professor at the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, expressing his concern, greetings and earnest expectations, which set the direction for Sichuan to deepen and expand cooperation with Cuba across various fields, including science and technology, in the new era. We will earnestly implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, take this Belt and Road Conference on Science and Technology Exchange as an opportunity to push the scientific and technological innovation cooperation between Sichuan and Cuba to a deeper level, further strengthen exchanges and cooperation between the two sides in such areas as economic and trade investment, education and healthcare, cultural tourism, and ecological and environmental protection, strive to achieve more practical results, and contribute to building an even closer China-Cuba community with a shared future.

Armando Rodríguez Batista expressed appreciation for the achievements Sichuan has made in its economic and social development. He said that Cuba and China share a long-standing and close friendship. The Cuban side thanks China for its long-term assistance and support and also attaches great importance to friendly exchanges with various regions of China. Cuba and Sichuan enjoy a solid cooperative foundation, strong complementarity, and broad prospects in areas such as scientific and technological innovation. Cuba is willing to actively promote more practical cooperation between the sides among universities, enterprises, and research institutions to achieve mutual benefit and win-win outcomes.

Cuban Ambassador to China Alberto Blanco Silva, provincial leaders Chen Wei and Pubu Dunzhu, and leading officials from relevant provincial departments, among others, participated in the meeting.
