On June 10 in Chengdu, Shi Xiaolin, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and Governor of the People's Government of Sichuan Province, separately met with some domestic and foreign guests attending the second Belt and Road Conference on Science and Technology Exchange in Sichuan. These included government officials, business leaders, and scientist representatives from home and abroad, such as Sheal Mulyata, Lusaka Province Minister of Zambia, Konstantin Novoselov, Nobel Prize winner in physics, Xue Qikun, Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Zeng Yuqun, Chairman of CATL.

On behalf of Secretary of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee Wang Xiaohui, the provincial Party committee, and the provincial government, Shi Xiaolin extended a welcome to all the guests and expressed gratitude for their support for Sichuan's development. She said that the Belt and Road Conference on Science and Technology Exchange was personally proposed for launch by President Xi Jinping and co-organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chinese Academy of Engineering, National Natural Science Foundation of China, China Association for Science and Technology, the People's Government of Sichuan Province, and the Chongqing Municipal People's Government. It is an important platform for practicing the Silk Road spirit and promoting cooperation in scientific and technological innovation. In recent years, Sichuan has seen the convergence of major national opportunities, such as the Belt and Road cooperation, the large-scale development of the western region in the new era, and the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle, and the country has also positioned many universities, research institutes and innovation platforms in the province. Sichuan has been firmly shouldering the mission assigned by President Xi Jinping to build "two highlands, two bases, and one shield", keeping in mind the instruction to make concurrent efforts in advancing both sci-tech innovation and the application of sci-tech achievements. The province unswervingly delivers on its own affairs, unswervingly expands high-standard opening up, develops new productive forces in light of local conditions, accelerates the construction of a modern industrial system, actively integrates into the global innovation landscape, and engages in regular cooperation with more than 100 countries (regions) and international organizations. We hope to leverage this conference as an opportunity and work with all sides to establish a pragmatic and efficient platform for scientific and technological exchange and mutual learning, create an open and innovative ecosystem, stimulate the potential for innovative growth, and promote scientific and technological achievements to benefit people of all countries. We also expect to explore expanded areas for deepened cooperation in key sectors, including economy, trade, industry, culture, tourism, medicine and education, achieve mutually beneficial development, jointly respond to global challenges, inject new impetus into the high-quality development of Sichuan and western China, and make positive contributions to high-quality Belt and Road cooperation and the building of a global community of science and technology.

The guests expressed their commitment to, under the framework of the Belt and Road cooperation, work with Sichuan to seize the opportunities arising from the scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation, build innovation platforms together, share innovation resources, intensify joint research efforts, deliver more innovation achievements, and deepen exchanges and cooperation in broader areas and at a deeper level, in a bid to support Sichuan's high-quality development and create a brighter future together.

Vice Governors Yang Xingping and Li Wenqing, Secretary-General of the People's Government of Sichuan Province Chen Shuping, and leading officials from relevant provincial departments, among others, attended the meetings.
