From June 10 to 12, the second Belt and Road Conference on Science and Technology Exchange was held in Chengdu. The conference was structured around five categories, namely, major events, thematic activities, special events, roundtables, and technology matchmaking sessions, centering on topics such as Belt and Road sci-tech planning and policy coordination, sci-tech and cultural exchanges, industrial innovation and development, international mega-science projects, sci-tech poverty alleviation, artificial intelligence, and traditional Chinese medicine. A total of 38 activities were successfully held throughout the conference.
Among the theme activities, a series of forums and conferences were convened, including the AI Empowered Sustainable Development Forum, the Belt and Road Forum for Young Scientists, the International Symposium on Belt and Road Cooperation for Modernization of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Belt and Road Forum on Engineering Capacity Building, the Forum on Goals and Practice of Poverty Alleviation Through Science and Technology, the Forum on Building the Path to Innovation Supported by Space Information Technology, the International Big Science Program Forum, and the Forum on "Carbon Emissions Peak and Carbon Neutrality" Led by Science and Technology. These activities demonstrated the multi-tiered and wide-ranging features of Belt and Road scientific and technological cooperation. At the venues of various events, renowned experts, scholars, and industry representatives from both home and abroad shared their insightful perspectives. At the Belt and Road Innovation and Investment Summit for Global Enterprises, the ANSO Alliance of National and International Innovative Enterprises was officially established, and several high-profile international cooperation projects were signed.
The featured events of this year's conference included the "Technology Creates a Better Life" Industry Collaboration Event, the Sichuan Tour of the Belt and Road Partnership Plan for Teenager Science and Technology Innovation and the 9th Belt and Road Teenager Maker Camp &Teacher Workshop, the Launch Ceremony for Belt and Road International Big Data Competition, the Belt and Road Forum on the Cooperation, Innovation &Development Science and Technology Parks, and the Science and Technology Empowered Cultural Heritage Protection Series. These events created high-quality opportunities for scientific and cultural exchanges among participants from Belt and Road countries, further strengthening international dialogues and cooperation.
In addition, a series of roundtable conferences were held, including the Roundtable on TechFin Empowered Innovation Cooperation, the President Roundtable Forum of University Network for Research Collaboration: A Belt and Road Science and Technology Initiative, the Roundtable on Precision Medicine and Digital Health Innovation Development, the Roundtable on International Science and Technology Cooperation on Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, the Roundtable on Connectivity Empowered by Transportation Science and Technology, the Brain Science Frontier Technology and Industry Development Roundtable, and International Meridian Circle Program Workshop. These events attracted representatives from government departments of Belt and Road countries, renowned international organizations, domestic and foreign research institutions, and industry-leading enterprises. At the Roundtable Conference on Civil Nuclear Technology and the Development of Future Energy Industry, the Nuclear Power Institute of China and the Thailand Institute of Nuclear Technology signed a memorandum of understanding to co-establish a joint laboratory. The Southwestern Institute of Physics and the Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS of Malaysia signed an MOU on fusion technology cooperation, adding new achievements to Belt and Road nuclear energy sci-tech cooperation.
In terms of technology matchmaking, the Two-way "Calling for Best Candidates" List Release and Launch Ceremony of the Sci-Tech Achievement Application Guidance Fund was successfully held. On-site, the third-batch 40 projects in the Two-way "Calling for Best Candidates" list was centrally released, and the 5-billion-yuan Sichuan Sci-Tech Achievement Application Investment Guidance Fund was officially launched. These initiatives are designed to leverage greater social capital to support scientific and technological innovation. Additionally, the Release and Matchmaking Conference on Significant Sci-Tech Achievements in High-end Equipment, the Cutting-edge Technologies in Advanced Displays and International Production Capacity Specialized Technology Matchmaking Conference, the "Belt and Road" Technological Innovation Achievements Sci-Tech Investment Special Matchmaking Session, and the Belt and Road International Technology Transfer Case Sharing &Technology Matchmaking Conference were successfully convened.
Provincial leaders Yu Lijun, Cao Lijun, Dong Weimin, Pubu Dunzhu, Jin Lei, Zheng Li, Luo Qiang, He Li, Yang Xingping, Hu Yun, Li Wenqing, Lin Shucheng, Ouyang Zehua, and Yang Dan attended relevant activities and met with participating guests.
